The MHSAA’s All-Time Football Programs

Backed by more than a century's worth of data, the Varsity Voices break down the top ten greatest MHSAA football programs of all time in Mississippi. Join veteran broadcasters Breck Riley, Jake Wimberly, Brandon Davis, and Jared Shotts as they embark upon this great endeavor determining who has stood the test of time in Mississippi high school football.

Determining the all-time programs

State Championships (15%): Winning a state title is the pinnacle of high school football success, so it carries the highest weight.

District Titles (10%): District titles indicate consistent regional dominance, slightly less prestigious than state titles.

Conference Championships (8%): Conference titles reflect success within a competitive subgroup, valuable but less broad than district titles.

Playoff Win Percentage (12%): Success in playoffs shows a team's ability to perform under pressure, a strong indicator of quality.

Winning Percentage (12%): Overall winning percentage captures long-term consistency across all games.

Playoff Wins (10%): Total playoff wins reflect postseason success, complementing playoff win percentage.

10-Win Seasons (10%): Achieving 10 or more wins in a season indicates exceptional performance, often tied to deep playoff runs.

Playoff Appearances (8%): Making the playoffs consistently shows a team's competitiveness over time.

Wins (8%): Total wins reflect historical success but are less weighted due to varying program ages and schedules.

Winning Seasons (7%): Having more winning seasons than losing ones shows sustained success.

Losing Seasons (-5%): A negative weight penalizes teams with more losing seasons, reflecting inconsistency.

Playoff Losses (0%): Not weighted directly, as playoff losses are already accounted for in playoff win percentage.

Losses (0%): Not weighted, as winning percentage already incorporates losses.

All 7 MHSAA Football Championship games to air on the State Championships Radio Network

The State Championships Radio Network will broadcast all seven MHSAA football state championship games. Mississippi best broadcasters will provide statewide radio coverage on ESPN 105.9 The Zone (WRKS) in Jackson and on all Mississippi Public Broadcasting stations around the state. And new to the network this year is WUSM, 88.5 in Hattiesburg. “What’s great about the network is that no matter where you are in Mississippi, you’ll be able to find a station carrying the games,” said Jared Shotts, Owner of Shotts Media and executive producer of the State Championships Radio Network. Additionally, fans can follow the games on the State Championship Radio YouTube channel, which will feature an in-booth camera view of the commentators.

Anchoring play-by-play coverage for the broadcasts will be Ben Ingram, Mississippi native and voice of the Atlanta Braves. “I’m grateful to be able to come back home to Mississippi to be a part of these broadcasts,” said Ingram. “The entire crew does a great job providing this coverage and it’s just a great way to wrap up the high school football season.”

Additional play-by-commentary, color commentary, and sideline coverage will be provided by:

  • Jared Shotts – Voice of the Germantown Mavericks/Belhaven Blazers and owner of Shotts Media.
